Herron was married to MHS grad, Danica Locker. He was raised by his mother, Barbie Herron Conkling, who still lives in Malibu and whenever healthy enough, over the years, he continued to surf, snowboard, and take photos.

One of the hallmark symptoms of Gardner Syndrome is the presence of noncancerous tumors in bones or soft tissues, accompanied by dental issues. However, the most prevalent and significant symptom is the development of colon polyps.

These growths pose a serious risk as they may transform into colon cancer over time. Lyon Herron’s struggle with this genetic disorder was further complicated by his diagnosis of colon cancer by adding another layer of complexity to his health challenges.

In a poignant Instagram post, he revealed his acceptance of the end of his life’s journey, expressing a desire for celebration rather than mourning.

Beyond his identity as a surfer, Lyon Herron was a multifaceted individual. As a photographer, he explored mountains and embraced adventurous activities, including riding dirt bikes. Lyon’s battle included a moment where his lungs struggled to function, and doctors gave him a slim chance of waking up. Against the odds, Lyon experienced a remarkable recovery with the support of a strong community.


In December 2022, an update on the GoFundMe page shared Lyon’s progress, indicating that he was recovering from edema at his mother’s house. Despite facing setbacks that led to hospitalization, Lyon continued to display resilience. His journey, marked by highs and lows, reflects the complexity of living with a rare genetic disorder like Gardner Syndrome.
