There will be 48 surfers competing in these Games, with a maximum of two or three surfers per gender, all from their respective NOCs.

The International Olympic Committee extends an invitation to all interested and qualified NOCs to send surfers to the Games in accordance with the Universality rule for the first time. Men’s and women’s national teams competed to earn one more berth for their National Olympic Committees (NOC) at the previous qualification event, the 2022 World Surfing Games.

For all athletes to be eligible for the Games, they had to compete in three consecutive years of the Pan American Games, the World Surf League Championship Tour, and the ISA World Surfing Games.

In both the men’s and women’s shortboard competitions, host country France is permitted to use a single quota spot each. The host country spot(s) will be transferred to the next highest-ranked eligible surfer at the 2024 ISA World Surfing Games if one or more French surfers directly qualify through any of the contests.

Individual competitors from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania will be awarded qualification berths at the World Surfing Games this year. The World Surfing Games are being held at Surf City, El Salvador, for the second time.

The sport’s premier competition, which takes place from May 30 to June 7, will feature 297 surfers from a record 64 nations competing on the world-class waves of La Bocana and El Sunzal.

Meanwhile, the yearly competition, 2024 ISA World Surfing Games ran from February 23 to March 3, to determine 14 individual Olympic quotas—six for men and eight for women held in Arecibo, Puerto Rico..
