Tauseef Ali Farooqui is a fourth-year student who is pursuing a B.Tech in Biotechnology at the Indian Institute of Technology. He made his startling proclamation to join ISIS in an open letter posted on LinkedIn.

Farooqui was involved in various extracurricular activities at the institute, including the Technical Team of the Research Conclave, the External Reach Team of the Electronic Club, and the Core Team of the Debating Society.

Farooqui’s declaration sent shockwaves through the academic and security communities alike. In his letter, he claimed to have repented for what he described as his ignorant past and announced his determination to join ISIS.

Action taken against Tauseef Ali Farooqui

At a press conference late on Saturday, Special Task Force (STF) assistant superintendent of police Kalyan Kumar Pathak revealed, “The Assam Special Task Force has detained IIT-G student Tauseef Ali Farooqui who claimed to have joined the ISIS.”

Tauseef had expressed his desire to join ISIS in emails and posts on social media. He was found to be Hajo in the Assamese Kamrup district.

Tauseef spent his most of the time at his campus indoors in his hostel and didn’t have many friends. The cops recovered a black banner that appears to be an ISIS flag and a few religious texts from his room. The recovered goods have been sent for forensic analysis.

The revelation by Tauseef Ali Farooqui has sparked widespread concern and prompted swift action from both law enforcement authorities and the administration of IIT Guwahati.

The administration is undoubtedly grappling with the gravity of the situation and the potential repercussions it may have on the institution’s reputation and security protocols.
