A 31-year-old Thai model Kaikan Kaennakam who went missing a year ago has been found dead in a mortuary in Bahrain with her cause of death now known after an autopsy

Kaikan Kaennakam was found in a mortuary in Bahrain more than a year after she disappeared. Her family has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

When her modeling opportunities faded, Kaikan moved to work in a Middle Eastern restaurant. Kaikan Kaennakam often updated her loved ones on social media and mentioned that she had moved with her boyfriend however, the identity of the 31 year old’s partner isn’t known.

However, in April 2023, she suddenly stopped posting on social media, causing concern among her family members who were unable to contact her by phone. Kaikan was not found despite several attempts to locate her. Her family contacted the Thai embassy in January the following year and sought help from the Thai community in Bahrain, but she remained missing.

Tragically, the Kaikan family received devastating news from the Thai embassy in Bahrain on April 18. They were told that the body of an unidentified Southeast Asian woman had been found in the morgue of the Salmaniya hospital complex where it had been for a year.

One crucial detail that helped identify the missing Thai worker was a tattoo on her leg. The official cause of death was acute lung and heart failure caused by alcohol poisoning. Suthida Ngernthavorn, Kaikan’s sister, suspects the events of her sister’s death.

She claimed that the images of Kaikan’s body show bruises, which worried them. Suthida revealed that before Kaikan went missing, she shared videos and photos on social media showing her body with visible injuries and marks, raising suspicions.

An autopsy attributed her death to acute lung and heart failure due to alcohol poisoning and the cause of death was acute cardiopulmonary failure.

The family contacted Paveena Hongsakul, the founder of the non-profit organization in Thailand. Paveena took steps to seek help from the Director of the Department of Foreign Protection of Thai Citizens and the Director General of the Consular Ministry. The family is now focused on the difficult task of bringing her body to Thailand. This process can be expensive, especially without travel insurance to cover the cost. The family may set up a fundraiser in future to gather funds.
