A look at Kieran McKenna’s career

As mentioned before, Kieran used to be a former player. He began his football career at Ballinamallard United and Enniskillen Town United in Northern Ireland as a youth. He became a young player for the Spurs in 2002 after accepting a scholarship offer.

He played as a Northern Ireland representative at the under-19 and under-21 levels. Following a hip injury that kept him out of the Tottenham first squad, McKenna decided to retire from the game in 2009 at the age of 22.

He then joined Tottenham Hotspur, his boyhood club as the Head of Academy Performance Analysis. Although he was offered to lead Liverpool Academy, he chose to stay with the Spurs and became the boss of 18s side.

In 2016, McKenna went to Manchester United to become the coach for their Under-18 Academy manager. Prior to the 2018–19 Premier League season, McKenna and Michael Carrick, a former United player, were promoted to the first team coaching staff and succeeded Rui Faria as Jose Mourinho’s assistant manager.

The 37-year-old whose preferred formation is 4-2-3-1, has been with Ipswich Town since December 2021 three and a half year deal and ended up being the Championship Manager of the Season in 2023-24 season.
