World Athletics Championships 2022 has begun, with Japan currently leading the medal tally after the end of the first day, know the results

World Athletics Championship kicked off yesterday and this is the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championship which is going on in Eugene, Oregon, USA. The tournament is underway after a gap of nearly three years due to Covid-19 pandemic.

After the end of day 1, Japan leads the medal tally with two medals( 1gold, 1silver), followed by Peru and Dominican Republic with one gold each. Netherlands and Poland have also opened their medal account with one silver each. Whereas the host US managed to win only one bronze along with China and Sweden after the end of day 1.

This tournament is the biggest event in Athletics, where athletes from around the globe compete to achieve the prestigious honour of medals.

• Team USA has won the most medals(381) with a total of 170 gold medals in the history of the competition.

• After the USA, Kenya has won the most medals in the competition, clinching a total of 151 medals in the history of the World Athletics Championships.

• Russia comes at number 3 with a total of 147 medals won in this competition.

• Germany grabs the fourth spot with a total of 121 medals clinched in this competition.

• Jamaica sits at number 5 with a total of 127 medals won in this competition.

It is surprising to see the greatest rival of the U.S.A, China who sits at 11th position with a total of 67 medals won in this competition.

Talking about India, they only won just one bronze medal in this competition. The last time when India clinched a medal in this competition dates back to 2003. India has sent a squad of 23 members to Eugene, Oregon, which includes the likes of Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo Olympics Gold medalist.

This year, the hopes and expectations are high from Indian athletes to bring a bunch of smiles back home.
