Police detained Advik Srivastava who is the ex-boyfriend of KIIT student Prakriti Lamsal on harassment charges
Advik Srivastava was arrested just hours after a third-year computer engineering B.Tech student, age 20 Prakriti of Nepal was discovered dead at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University dorm campus in Bhubaneswar.

Advik Srivastava, a mechanical engineering student at the same university, was accused by the deceased girl’s classmates and acquaintances of torturing her physically and psychologically during the course of their three-year relationship.
Police identified the victim as Nepal resident and the accused as Lucknow resident Advik Srivastava (21) with him reportedly having two brothers named Ansh and Vansh. While a string of Reddit posts have claimed that Advik’s father is a politician which is why the college was trying to suppress the case along with delete evidence, this is yet to be officially confirmed with the name of his parents not known yet.
The accused was detained from outside the airport on Sunday evening as he was trying to flee the city and has been booked under section 108 of the BNS (abetment of suicide) after Prakriti was found dead in QC-4.
Lamsal’s cousin, Siddhant Sigdel, filed an FIR stating that she was continuously harassed and an audio clip featuring abuse from Srivastava surfaced online. KIIT claimed that Lamsal and Srivastava were in a relationship and that the suicide might have resulted from a personal dispute while Sunil Lamsal, father of the deceased Nepali student at KIIT University, stated that his daughter was harassed and emotionally blackmailed, leading to her suicide.
An audio clip allegedly featuring a conversation between Advik and Prakriti has surfaced on social media and gone viral and in the clip, a young man was heard abusing and harassing a girl.
Prakriti was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the hostel campus of KIIT University on February 16 evening and it is suspected that she died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by Advik over their strained relationship. Prakriti Lamsal was a B.Tech third-year student of the educational institution.

According to a fellow student, “the deceased Prakriti Lamsal from Nepal had to endure relentless harassment from Advik during her three-year relationship” and she even complained to the college’s IRO who took no action. Police have reportedly detained Advik while they conduct additional investigation into the incident in response to the students’ accusations.
According to preliminary investigation, the girl’s “broken” connection with Advik was the reason behind her suicide. Since Prakriti’s untimely death, other students have protested by blocking highways close to the college.

A photo of a flight ticket having the name of accused Advik Srivastava has surfaced and the photo features a flight ticket dated 16 February 2025 booked in the name of Advik Srivastava, having Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar as its origin and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata as its destination.
The boarding time, as mentioned in the flight ticket, was 8.35 PM while the departure time was 9.20 PM which alludes towards Prakriti’s ex-boyfriend trying to flee the city prior to his arrest.

Reactions of students
“They are trying to suppress the truth. They took away her (the deceased’s) phone and are not handing it back. The Vice-Chancellor and every other university authority are trying to hide the evidence,” a student can be heard saying in a purported video clip that has gone viral.
Students accused the institution of suppressing the issue, and cries of “We Want Justice” reverberated throughout the campus. The students were in a state of turmoil and asked that the probe be made transparent.
Their protest, which called for openness and responsibility, led to a roadblock at the school entrance.
Police were sent in to control the situation and get things back to normal until the last report arrived. Her parents have been notified of the regrettable event, and the body has been confiscated and sent to Capital Hospital for an autopsy.
