David Schumacher, the nephew of Michael Schumacher and the son of former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher, suffered serious injuries in a horrific accident over the weekend during the Hockenheim DTM race.

According to the recent news he broke his spine in the terrible incident During lap 6, the 20-year-old battled with Thomas Preining, and their collision in turn 8 sent both of their cars hurtling off the circuit and into the barrier. After the collision, the Mercedes driver was first given the all-clear before being brought to the hospital.

The German driver, though, has a shattered back, according to recent examinations. Ralf Schumacher, David’s father, disclosed that he fractured his lumbar vertebra and is currently needed to wear a corset. David Schumacher won’t need surgery for his damaged spine, though, and is anticipated to fully heal in a few weeks.

According to Ralf Schumacher, David was still complaining of back pain when he returned home. We made the decision to get an MRI done at a hospital in Salzburg after that. Schumacher had to miss Sunday’s title-deciding race.

Due to the damage the collision caused to his Mercedes-AMG GT3, Schumacher missed Sunday’s title-deciding race after being engaged in the horrible accident, ending his rookie DTM season early. Under braking for Turn 8, the collision between Schumacher and Preining also set off a series of events that resulted in Ricardo Feller tagging Dennis Olsen’s Porsche.

Olsen’s Porsche engine was flung out during the impact, catching fire, and colliding with Nick Cassidy’s Ferrari as it went spinning into the wall on the opposite side of the circuit. The Porsche team of Preining and Olsen were then deemed medically unfit to compete, and Cassidy ultimately had to withdraw from Sunday’s championship race due to crash-related injuries.
