His real name was Bhakkiyaraj. On September 1, 2022, he was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He adheres to the Islamic faith.
He finished his schooling at a private institution. Following this, he enrolled in the college where he received his graduate degree.

He mostly collaborated on multiple cinematic projects with music director A. R. Rahman. After A. R. Rahman requested that he perform songs for him in the style of well-known South African singer Bamba, he was given the moniker Bamba Bakya.
