In the series, Park Seo-joon embodies the character of Jang Tae-sang, while Han So-hee brings depth to the role of Yoon Chae-ok. Kim Su-hyun portrays Lady Maeda in this gripping tale.

With the release of the final three episodes of “Gyeongseong Creature,” Netflix revealed the dramatic conclusion, igniting fan excitement for a possible second season. So, let’s first find out what happened in its ending, and then we will go through the possibilities of season 2.

What happened at the end of the Gyeongseong Creature?

In the last episode, Yoon Chae-ok imagines herself living a peaceful life with her family, telling stories over dinner, but Lady Maeda’s harsh reminder of the suffering associated with hopes in an occupied territory shatters her dream.

The story starts when Beom-O informs Tae-sang about Chae-ok’s predicament. Japanese troops get ready to introduce Chae-ok to her mother, Seishin, who has changed into a terrifying beast. When the monster emerges, there are explosions, clashes between Colonel Kato and Chae-ok, and chaos.

Using her safety as leverage against her mother’s crimes, Seishin uses her monster form to strike against the troops, forcing Colonel Kato to imprison Chae-ok. Colonel Kato launches a risky nitrogen tactic as Tae-sang and Jung-won seek to save Chae-ok.

Using a necklace, Jung-won calls his monster wife into existence during the tense action, saying goodbye, which ends with a devastating explosion in the hospital. After Chae-ok and Tae-sang just about escape the flames, Tae-sang delivers heartbreaking information about Chae-ok’s parents. They escape with Ryu Sachimoto’s help, and Ryu apologizes for doing nothing during their ordeal.

Seishin, meanwhile, sees her daughter go after surviving the fire. When Tae-sang and Chae-ok run into Beom-O, a fight breaks out as Lady Maeda’s goons show up to kill them. There’s fierce fighting, and at the end, the monster steps in to save her daughter.

Sadly, Chae-ok suffers from life-threatening wounds. Before passing away, she declares her love for Tae-sang, leaving everyone in attendance in deep grief. The monster has left the city in ruins, and as Colonel Kato holds Akino’s infant, he muses over his next creation.

The plot then switches to a funeral, where Jun-taek gives Lady Maeda a farewell letter from Tae-sang just before explosives destroy the hall.

Even when Tae-sang’s life returned to normal, memories of Chae-ok remained, especially during South Korea’s independence celebrations. Meanwhile, Colonel Kato and Lady Maeda discuss their futures, the latter scarred and paralyzed from the blast.

The monster dives in, protecting her corpse and screaming out to her dead daughter. To everyone’s surprise, the Najin virus from the creature revives Chae-ok, signaling a remarkable resurrection.

The story ends with a look into what appears to be a modern age, when Ho-jae, a character similar to Tae-sang, is seen admiring South Korea’s achievements. The scar on his neck suggests the lasting impact of the past.

Will there be any season 2?

Many mysteries remained unresolved by the conclusion of Gyeongseong Creature, including whether Chae-ok survived when the Najin virus from her mother’s body invaded hers. There is also suspense concerning Tae-sang’s fate after the last scene, in which the unidentified figure Ho-jae has Tae-sang’s throat and face operated on.

Fans question what Colonel Kato did to Akino’s child and if Ho-jae is Tae-sang’s son or not. So, because of its unclear conclusion, it’s possible that Gyeongseong Creature may return for a second season. Nevertheless, Netflix has not yet confirmed a season renewal, despite the fans’ high expectations.
