Albert Pyun was a well-known American film director. He has been in the news because he passed away recently.

He was born on May 19, 1953, in the territory of Hawaii, U.S. His father was a military man while his mother was a homemaker. He did his schooling at multiple schools in multiple locations including Kailua and Hawaii. Later, he moved to Los Angeles to become a feature film director.

He was married to producer Cynthia Curnan.

He died on November 26, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. He died at the age of 69.

His Career

Albert Pyun worked for many production companies while still in high school and was offered an internship with Toshiro Mifune, a Japanese actor.

Before going back to Hawaii to begin a career as a commercial film editor, he first assisted director of photography Takao Saito on a TV series starring Toshiro Mifune. He made the decision to go to Los Angeles after a few years in order to pursue his goal of becoming a feature film director.

In 1982, Albert Pyun made his film debut in the fantasy epic The Sword and the Sorcerer. The movie had a $4 million budget but ended up grossing $40 million at the box office, solidifying Pyun’s reputation as a filmmaker who could provide a significant return on investment.

The next year, he helmed the first feature film version of the Marvel superhero comic “Captain America” in 1990 as well as the four-movie “Nemesis” franchise.
