Pakistan was reduced to 118 for nine by Afghanistan in the last over, which put them comfortably in control of the game. Naseem, however, had other ideas, hitting Fazalhaq Farooqi for two straight sixes to eliminate Afghanistan and India from contention for a final spot.

Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka have guaranteed their spots in the tournament’s final, which will be played on Sunday, with two victories in as many games.

Who Is Naseem Shah?

Naseem Shah is a young Pakistani cricketer. He has recently been in the news because of his excellent performances in the Asia Cup 2022.

His full name is Naseem Abbas Shah. On February 15, 2003, he was born in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He has two sisters and four brothers, one of them is Hunain Shah, a fast bowler who competes at the U19 level.

His height is 1.80 m or 5 ft 11 inches and he is currently 19 years old. His mother passed away in 2019. He is currently single and unmarried.

His Career

On September 1, 2018, Naseem Shah made his first-class debut for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for the 2018–19 season. On October 16, 2018, he made his List A debut for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited during the Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup for the 2018–19 season.

He was included in Central Punjab’s roster for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy competition in September 2019.

Prior to the 2019–20 National T20 Cup competition, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named him one of the six players to watch in October 2019. On October 13, 2019, he played his first T20 match for Central Punjab in the 2019–20 National T20 Cup.

Naseem Shah was recruited by Gloucestershire County Cricket Club in January 2022 to participate in English domestic competitions.

He was included in Pakistan’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad on August 21 in preparation for the series against England. He was included on the 35-person Pakistani team for their November 2020 trip to New Zealand. He was included in the Pakistan Shaheens lineup for their trip to Sri Lanka in October 2021.

In November 2019 against Australia, Naseem Shah made his international debut. He was the youngest pace bowler and the second-youngest bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in a Test match in December 2019 during the second Test against Sri Lanka.

He made history by taking a hat-trick of wickets in the first Test against Bangladesh in February 2020, making him the youngest bowler to do so.

On August 16, 2022, against the Netherlands, he played in his first ODI for Pakistan. At the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28, 2022, Naseem Shah played his first T20I match against India.
