This year’s tournament marks the 22nd edition, and it is taking place after a gap of four years after the biennial volleyball event got cancelled in 2021 due to COVID-19.
Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023 venue
The ongoing tournament is currently taking place across two venues, the Korat Chatchai Hall and The Mall Korat’s MCC Hall.
Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023 teams and pools
There are 14 teams competing in the tournament, divided into four groups each for the prelims. Pool A and B will have three teams each while Pool C and D will both have four teams each. Given below are the teams and pools in the ongoing event:

The People’s Republic of China, world No. 6, are the most successful side in the tournament with 13 titles.
Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023 format
The competition will take place in three phases – the preliminary round, the classification round and the knockout round. It begins with the prelims, following which the top two teams from each group will enter Pool E and F. Meanwhile the remaining teams will enter into Pools G and H for the classification round.
From there, the two top teams from Pool E and F will make up the top four (semi-finals). The rest of the teams will then play to achieve the best-possible placements. The top four teams will compete in the semi-finals which takes place on September 5. Meanwhile, the third-place match and final match will take place on September 6. Notably, the top three teams from the competition will qualify for the upcoming 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.

Team India consists of a 12-member squad in the ongoing competition Given below is the full team India squad:
Jini KS, Maria Sebastian, Nirmal, Shaalini, Saranya, Ezhilmathi, S Soorya, Shilpa, Anusree Ghosh, Minimol, Anagha and Ananya Das
So far, team India’s best performance came in the 1979 edition, where they finished seventh on their debut. More recently, team India has registered consecutive 10th-place finishes from the 2017 to 2019 editions.
