A look at Mark Flekken’s career so far
Flekken began his career at Bocholtz’s RKVV WDZ youth department before transferring to Roda JC Kerkrade’s development academy. His first professional deal was signed on September 22, 2011.
When the financially struggling club parted ways with Michael Melka during the winter break of the 2012–13 3 Liga season, Flekken was named the starting custodian by coach Rene van Eck. On January 26, 2013, Flekken made his debut against 1. FC Saarbrucken at home, winning 2-0.
Flekken relocated to the 2. Bundesliga team SpVgg Greuther Fürth prior to the 2013–14 campaign. On June 12, 2016, Flekken became an MSV Duisburg player. He served as Alexander Schwolow’s backup over the entire season until making his debut against 1. FC Nurnberg on the last day of the 2018–19 campaign. Flekken signed a £11 million reported contract to join Premier League team Brentford on May 31, 2023.
At the FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Montenegro and Norway on November 13 and 16, 2021, respectively, Flekken was called up to the senior Netherlands national team roster. In a friendly game versus Denmark on March 26, 2022, Flekken made his debut for the Netherlands internationally.
