Following his death, a funeral took place today, 13 September 2023, where his last rites were performed amidst the presence of many Bollywood actors.
Cause of death
According to reports, Birbal Khosla passed away following a cardiac arrest at the Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai, on 12 September 2023.

Birbal Khosla was a renowned Indian actor who born as Satinder Kumar Khosla on Friday, 28 October 1938. He was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab Province, British India, which is now Gurdaspur, Punjab, India. During his childhood, he attended the Hira Lal Jain Senior Secondary School in New Delhi.
After completing his schooling, Birbal attended the University of Delhi and also attended a college in Jalandhar. While still in college, Birbal watched various films starring Kishore Kumar and eventually developed an interest in acting.

Birbal Khosla was 84 years old at the time of his death and stood at a height of 5′ 8″.

Birbal’s father ran a printing press in Punjab, and he had two younger brothers as well as two younger sisters.

Birbal Khosla career
Prior to starting out his acting career, Birbal Khosla featured in a very small role in a song in one of Ram Dayal’s film titled ‘Raja.’ The film released back in the 1960s. Khosla eventually made his acting debut in the year 1966. He played a supporting role as Mohan’s batchmate in the Hindi FIlm ‘Do Badan’, which starred Manoj Kumar and Asha Parekh
He gained prominence after playung the role of Baanchcharam in V. Shantaram’s 1967 film ‘Boond Jo Ban Gayi Moti.’ He then featured in a series of films directed by Raj Khosla and Manoj Kumar. This include Upkar (1967), Mera Saaya (1966), Mera Naam Joker (1970) Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974), and Kranti (1981).
Birbal Khosla palyed his most iconic role as a prisoner with a half shaven moustache, in the popular 1975 Hindi film, ‘Sholay’. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in the lead roles. He lasted acted in the film, ‘10 Nahi 40′, which is a 2022 Hindi comedy-drama in where he played the lead role.
Throughout his career, Birbal acted in over 500 films in multiple languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, and Bhojpuri.
Aside from acting Birbal did small jobs and worked on daily wages during the initial days of his acting career. Stainder got the name Birbal, when was shooting for the Hindi film ‘Anita’ (1967). Actor Manoj Kumar and director Raj Khosla gave him the screen name Birbal because they thought his original name wasn’t suitable for the film industry.
He had a net worth of Rs.10-20 crore.
