The Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf hockey stadium in Ranchi will host the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023 from October 27 to November 5.
The two semifinal matches, the third-place playoff, and the championship game will make up the knockout phase, while the fifth- and sixth-placed clubs will square off in a fifth-place playoff game. November 2 marks the end of the first round, while November 4 marks the beginning of the knockout stage.
A total of 20 matches will be played, with three matches being held each day except for the final day, when there will only be two matches. A single Ranchi location will serve as the host for all of the matches.
On October 27, the Indian women’s team will play Thailand, and the tournament will get underway with Malaysia playing Japan in the first match of the opening day. The hosts, India, have been in strong form, especially following their historic Commonwealth Games bronze medal in Birmingham and title win in the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup in Spain last year.
The hosts have also placed second in 2018 and won the Asian Champions Trophy in 2016. On November 2, they will play Korea in the final game of the group round.
The most decorated team in tournament history, Korea, which has won three of the last six tournaments in 2010, 2011, and 2016, will present a formidable challenge to Japan, the defending champions.
