SP Likith Talks About Cheating During The Swimming Qualifiers For Tokyo Olympics 2021
Uzbekistan Open Swimming Championship was held back in the month of April in 2021. FINA has canceled the results of this championship by looking into the cheating matter. FINA is an international body that deals with all water sports events. Uzbekistan Open Swimming championship was a qualifying event for all Indian swimmers to be a part of the Olympic Games.
According to the Indian swimmer SP Likith, the place where Uzbekistan Open Swimming Championship was held was directly favoring their local swimmers. Also, he mentioned that the officials who conducted that particular championship offered him money in return for losing.
He said that the timing was disturbed so that he doesn’t make it to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Also, this 21-year-old young swimmer added to his statement that when he tried lodging a complaint against the accused he was tortured. During day 1 of the championship, the scoreboard was not visible, and later on, when the scores were depicted they were completely changed and new ones.
Likith stated that “When I complained, they casually told me that this has been happening since 2000-2004. And they have orders to ensure they send 10 Usbeki swimmers to Tokyo”. The official themselves told Likith that this all is a part of sports politics and it would be better for him to stay away from this.
“They offered me money to shut up. So they came up with this idea to get me to give in writing that I was mentally ill and deaf,” said Likith.
No official statement has been given yet by any of the championship officials. Also many are stating Likith to be wrong and are saying that the young swimmer is bluffing after losing.
