Katerina Siniakova vs Elena Rybakina
The overall prize pool is $251,750 (€203,024), an increase of 7.02% from the previous year.
Along with 280 ranking points, the Portoroz winner Katerina Siniakova will also get a check for €26,770, which is a 13.68% increase over the amount given out in 2021.
On Sunday, Katerina Siniakova defeated No. 3 seed and defending Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina to win the Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz championship in one of the year’s longest finals. 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-4.
In 3 hours and 6 minutes, Czech Republic’s Siniakova defeated Kazakhstan’s Rybakina, rallying from a set and a break behind to win her third singles championship of her career. Siniakova won her last two singles titles in 2017 at Shenzhen and Bastad, but this is her first one since then.
Rybakina jumped off to a quick 5-0 lead, but Siniakova showed early hints that she was ready to fight back by pushing the first set all the way to a tiebreak. Rybakina was able to win four of the last five points in the first set tiebreak, though, thanks to a string of victories.
At 4-3 in the second set, Siniakova fell behind by a break, but the Czech player broke back right away, forcing the set into a tiebreak once more. This time, Siniakova jumped out to an early lead and won her third set point by converting it, forcing a wide Rybakina return to tie the match.
In the decider, Rybakina overturned a break that Siniakova had made early on, but the Czech regained the lead with a second break to make the score 5-4. After a wide Rybakina forehand, Siniakova, who was serving for the match, reached her first championship point and eventually won the match and the trophy.
Tereza Mihalkova/Cristina Bucsa vs Tereza Martincova/Marta Kostyuk
The reigning champions, Anna Kalinskaya and Tereza Mihalková, withdrew from the competition before it started. Mihalková paired Cristina Bucşa, but the duo lost to Marta Kostyuk and Tereza Martincová in the championship match, 6-4, 6-0. This was the first WTA Tour doubles victory for Kostyuk and Martincová.
