The excitement around the upcoming edition of the Wimbledon 2021 is rapidly building, however a string of players have decided to pullout
The romp around the tournament is predictably a bit more now, given it could not take place last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It became the first time since the open era that Wimbledon did not happen. But the vibe is setting in for the 134th edition of the oldest Grand Slam event. And after French Open and Australian Open transpired successfully, Wimbledon promises to thrill its fans as well.

As many as 16 players are set to miss the competition, owing to various reasons. These include the likes of Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Naomi Osaka, and Simona Halep.

Wimbledon 2021 Predictions, Top Seeds And Contenders In The Men Singles
Novak Djokovic is undeniably the favourite to retain the crown as he has been in frightening form and seems to be at his best mentally. Should he continue as the Wimbledon champion after this year, he would equal Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the most grand slam titles with 20.
The current French Open champion will open his campaign against Britain’s Jack Draper. The likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, and Alexander Zverev look likely to challenge the Serbian. Andy Murray, despite his Cinch Championship ending early, could be a dark horse.
On the other hand, Federer might also threaten Djokovic’s reign, mainly due to his superior skills on the grass-court deck. Contrary to most expectations, the Swiss succumbed in the second round of the Halle Open, losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime. Yet, the player with the most Wimbledon titles can be counted out in their peril.
Wimbledon 2021 Predictions, Top Seeds And Contenders In The Women Singles
With Simona Halep out of the tournament due to a calf injury, she would not defend it. Nevertheless, Ashleigh Barty and Serena Williams will fancy their chances of winning this year’s event. Williams, in her twilight years, will aim to add to her 23 grand slam titles. Should Serena win the Wimbledon title, she would equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 grand slam crowns.
But the 39-year old could not go past the fourth round in the French Open this year, losing to Elena Rybakina in straight sets. Thus, she has fitness issues. Ashleigh Barty remains in the same boat as she withdrew in the second round midway, unable to continue due to a hip injury.
It would be hard to ignore Barbora Krejczikova, the unseeded Czech player, who surprised everyone by winning the Roland Garros. She also won the doubles title with Katerina Siniakova by beating Iga Swiatek and Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The other contenders to win Wimbledon this year are Jelena Ostapenko, Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Kvitova, and Sofia Kenin.
