The incident was deemed a “terrorist act,” according to Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic, as reported by the Serbian news site Telegraf.
To find the culprit, 600 police officers—including members of the Special Antiterrorist Unit (SAJ) and Gendarmerie—began “Operation Whirlwind,” a manhunt. He was taken into custody on Friday morning close to Kragujevac, which is situated approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the town of Mladenovac. The Ministry published images of the incident and told CNN they are examining this incident as a domestic terrorism incident.
