The girl who stood against the Asaram (Bapu) confessed to her father of rape three days after returning from his Jodhpur ashram.
The victim stopped eating and offered her prayer to God, which caused suspicion. After hearing about the girl, the father decided to confront the man, the owner of the Rs. 10,000 crore empire. He went to his Delhi ashram to confront him with his wife and daughter, wondering why he hadn’t been able to see right through the man.
But her daughter stopped her from asking if he could really question the man with such power in front of so many people who admire him so much. The girl later asked her father to go to the police station instead and file a case against him. She wanted it the legal way, not in front of thousands of followers.
She located the nearest police station, entered it with her parents by her side, and requested a female police officer to register an FIR.
The policeman pointed to the Ramlila grounds and asked incredulously, “You mean this Asaram?” The father believes that the officers showed some reluctance. They initially hesitated to accept that he could commit rape. Then they questioned the need for filing a case in Delhi for a rape that occurred in Jodhpur.
Pledge To Fight Against
On April 25, 2004, a Jodhpur court sentenced 77-year-old Asaram to life in prison after finding him guilty of rape four and a half years earlier.
She won the battle because of the girl’s courage and the support of her family. Women are not allowed to speak up in these situations; instead, they are made to feel guilty, and the family prefers to keep quiet out of concern about being slandered.
The girl and her father had never been inside a police station before. It wasn’t simple. They had no knowledge of how the system operated, and he was powerful. The father faced a further conundrum because he wanted to reprimand this man but didn’t want to harm his daughter. After submitting the FIR, he avoided speaking to the media for almost ten days.
The Suppression of the Evidence
The father’s worst nightmares were coming true: Asaram’s supporters began arranging gatherings where they publicly shamed the father and daughter, as well as publishing articles in their own journals that slandered the girl. Around the end of August, he felt they had to speak up and released their version of events. The pressure only increased after Asaram was taken into custody on August 31.
Three witnesses were killed while the case was in court: the girl’s teacher, her school’s principal, the police officers involved, and the girl’s father all received threats.
On September 17, 2014, two unidentified assailants stabbed Shahjahanpur-based journalist Narendra Yadav outside his workplace. Yadav has relentlessly pursued the case. He got by. His father was the target of fictitious kidnapping and murder cases brought by Asaram’s supporters.
Having a Different Life After the Battle
She is now completing her BA online. But before the incident, she had an ambition of becoming a chartered accountant since she believed that would enable her to support her family, who were already business owners.
She has only been able to leave her home for college examinations or when she has had to appear in court.
Her father has come up with ways to occupy her inside the home. She has several kittens and enjoys playing badminton with her younger brother. He asked her to spend time cooking or watching TV.
According to her, like Asaram, his daughter is also jailed in her own house.
The once-chirpy young lady has changed and now speaks only when necessary. She is attempting to regain some sense of normalcy in her life after losing two years to the lawsuit.
The father, who once managed a prosperous transport company, has spent the majority of his savings on the legal dispute.
