Chelsea offered €12.5m for David Datro Fofana on Wednesday and it was accepted by Molde. Club director Ole Erik Stavrum and agent Atta Aneke were together in Oslo on Thursday to close the deal.

Chelsea are currently undergoing some major upheaval works at the club having spent over £30 million for new young players like Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka.
The new strategy, dubbed as ‘Vision 2030’, aims to create a teenage side behind the first team. The side will preferably plug gaps whenever needed, while keeping in mind a suitable long-term succession plan at Stamford Bridge.
David Datro Fofana Brief Bio And Career
David Datro Fofana, who usually just goes by Fofana, was born on December 22, 2002, and is currently, aged just 19. He made his senior international debut for Ivory Coast at just 16 during an African Nations Championship game against Chad. Although this remains his only senior cap for now, he will be hopefully be looking to feature in more games in the coming years.
At the club level, he just recently moved to Norwegian side Molde last year following a new four-year contract. Before that, he was recently playing for Ivorian club AFAD, which is based in the largest city Abidjan.
The 19-year-old has already made 65 appearances for Molde since joining, and has scored 24 goals and registered 10 assists. He helped his side win both the domestic League as well as the league cup.
Fofana has already scored on 15 occasions and bagged three assists in the ongoing 2022-23 season. Moreover, the young Ivorian has already garnered a lot of European competition experience through the Europa League.

Fofana’s admiration for Chelsea is no secret having previously spoken about before on various occasions. The talented 19-year-old also shared how Didier Drogba, a Chelsea icon and legendary Ivorian footballer is a huge inspiration for him in his own career.

Chelsea have been my favourite club since I was little. Drogba played there, so they have always been my club. So it’s my dream.
Multiple Interests
Graham Potter and Chelsea are expected to pay over €10million (£8.6m) for Fofana. However, there are speculations that he is also in talks with Premier League club Brighton. Besides that, several other clubs like Liverpool, Leicester and Bundesliga outfit Schalke have also sparked interest in recent months.
