Know who is Sir Huw Thomas and what was his role at Royal Household?
Huw Thomas was born on February 25, 1958, in London, England, and attended Harrow School for his education. He received a Bachelor of Arts in 1979 from Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied the scientific sciences. As is customary, his BA was afterwards upgraded to a Master of Arts degree. At the London Hospital Medical College, he continued his medical education, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1982.
Later, he engaged in postgraduate study at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, and in 1991, University College London awarded him a Doctor of Philosophy in molecular genetics of colorectal cancer.
As director of the Family Cancer Clinic at St Mark’s Hospital in London and consulting physician at St Mary’s Hospital in London, Thomas was appointed in 1994. He joined Imperial College in London in 2007 as a professor of gastrointestinal genetics and later, he was named physician to the Royal Household in 2005.

In July 2014 he was named head of the Medical Household, the royal family’s medical unit. He also served as the Queen’s physician and as part of the 2021 New Year’s Honors, Thomas received the title of Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
