Hokato Hotozhe Sema is an Indian para-athlete who was born on December 24, 1983, in Dimapur, Nagaland, India and comes from a humble family with four children. He is currently 40 years old and competes in the men’s shot put F57 event. Sema recently represented India during the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris, where he won a bronze medal in the event.

Aside from being an athlete, Hokato is currently employed as a havildar in the Indian Army with the 9th Assam Regiment. In fact, the Paralympic bronze medallist lost the lower part of his leg while on duty. He was out on an operation at the Line of Control when he stepped on a landmine, and eventually lost his leg to the landmine blast.
The incident took place in 2002, when he was just 19-years-old, and he has since started playing shotput professionally. Hokato has gone on to achieve great things despite the setback, and despite the fact that he comes from a state where there is rampant lack of infrastructure.
Career and achievements
Hokato Hotozhe Sema currently under coach Rakesh Rawat and receives monetary support from the Olympic Gold Quest, which is a sports NGO. Sema gained prominence after winning the bronze medal in shotput F-56/57 category event at the 2022 Asian Para Games, which took place in Hangzhou, China. He also went on to win the bronze medal in the same shotput F-57 category at the ongoing 2024 Paralympics. Hokato won the medal in Paris with an all-new personal best throw of 14.65m.
