Warren Boxing Management expressed its condolences in a statement on May 13, stating that despite the paramedics’ best efforts, Lawal could not be revived.

The 29-year-old fighter, British middleweight Sherif collapsed in the ring at London’s Harrow Leisure Centre after taking a blow to the temple from Portuguese boxer Malam Varela and medics jumped into the ring and performed CPR for more than 10 minutes before he was taken to Northwick Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Nothing more has been revealed about his death at the moment.

They extended their sympathies to Lawal’s family, friends, coaches, and all who were close to him during this heartbreaking time.

The company took to its official Instagram handle and expressed, “Last night, Sherif Lawal was making his debut at a show at Harrow Leisure Centre, in which our boxer Courtney Bennett was scheduled to fight.

“Unfortunately during Sherif’s fight, he collapsed and despite the best efforts of the paramedics, he was later pronounced dead. Warren Boxing Management would like to send our condolences to all of Sherif’s family, friends, coaches and all those close to him at this tragic time.”

What Exactly Happened?

Sherif Lawal was in a match against Portuguese fighter Malam Varela when he took a blow to the temple, as per numerous reports.

This occurred in the fourth round of their six-round middleweight bout at London’s Harrow Leisure Centre on May 12.
Medical personnel attended to Lawal at the venue before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was sadly declared deceased.

Tributes Poured In

Richard Smith, the General Secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBB), expressed heartfelt condolences to Lawal’s family on behalf of the organization.

He stated, “The entire boxing community in Great Britain shares their grief during this challenging period.”

British Middleweight Champion Nick Blackwell also extended his sympathies, expressing, “My thoughts are with his family,” accompanied by prayer hands emoji.

About Sherif Lawal

Sherif, whose birth name is Sherifdeen Lawal, embarked on his boxing journey in 2018 before transitioning to the professional circuit earlier this year.

The boxer was residing in St Pancras, London, United Kingdom before his death on May 12.

The middleweight boxer’s coach, CJ Hussein, remarked on March 7 to the media outlet, “I firmly believe the professional arena will be a perfect fit for Sherif.

“He possesses all the necessary skills to excel as a middleweight. He serves as a genuine source of inspiration for our younger boxers at the gym.”

The fight between Sherif Lawal and Malam Varela was first on the card on Sunday, May 12. As per reports, the bout was set for six rounds but was cut short to 4 after Lawal collapsed in the ring.
