The club statement by Brighton stated that Sam’s duties would be taken on immediately by Mike Cave, associate technical director, with assistance from George Holmes, manager of scouting and intelligence.

Jewell, who took over as Brighton’s head of recruitment 16 months ago when Paul Winstanley left for Stamford Bridge, resigned from that position. He will likely serve out his notice term before beginning his new role in November.

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired Chelsea in 2022, the club has undergone significant internal restructuring, and Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, two of their co-sporting directors, are eager to centre the business around them.

The Blues and Albion have a long history together, dating back to 2022 when the former manager Graham Potter and his backroom crew were acquired. In addition to Potter, the Seagulls sent Billy Reid, Bjorn Hamberg, Bruno Saltor, Ben Roberts, and Kyle McCauley to Chelsea as assistants.

Jewell became the latest member to make a move between the two clubs after goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, defender Marc Cucurella, and midfielder Moises Caicedo arrived at Stamford Bridge.

With news on Tuesday that Chelsea will recruit Jewell, the south coast club’s head of recruitment, they have already raided Brighton for the eleventh time. Here is all you need to know about the latest member.
