Salim Ramji who is a former BlackRock executive has been named Vanguard Group’s new CEO and board member, have a look at his family and nationality

Salim Ramji was considered a potential successor to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink before to his resignation in January 2024. Now he has been appointed as Vanguard Group’s CEO. His appointment was confirmed on 14 May, 2024.

Vanguard’s recently hired CEO, boasts an exceptional educational background. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and politics from the University of Toronto. He also holds an MA in law from Cambridge University.

His varied educational background demonstrates his dedication to excellence and ability to understand both the financial and legal parts of the company.

Salim is a Canadia Muslim who was born in Tanzania and brought up in Canada. His parents influenced him in two ways as a child as they taught him the importance of education.

Salim Ramji is a married man and shares two sons with his wife and resides in New York with his family. The names of his family members aren’t known.

On 8 July, Salim Ramji will take over as CEO of Vanguard and join the board of directors. He left BlackRock earlier this year after more than a decade with the firm. Vanguard announced in February that Buckley would step down as CEO at the end of the year.

Ramji most recently led BlackRock’s iShares and index investments, which experienced significant growth. Vanguard’s announcement of Ramji’s hiring emphasised his efforts to launch low-cost investing solutions.

“His contributions led to expanded investment access for tens of millions of investors, a more central role for in retirement and wealth portfolios and a more efficient bond market with ETFs as an enabling technology,” Vanguard said.

According to Ramji’s LinkedIn, he was the head of BlackRock’s wealth-advisory division in the United States from 2015 to 2019, where he handled the company’s ties with wealth-management businesses. He joined BlackRock in 2014 as the global head of corporate strategy.

According to his LinkedIn, he began his career as a lawyer at Clifford Chance and worked there for four years and in 1998, he joined the New York-based Global Management company McKinsey & Company as a Senior Partner. As per reports, a partner of McKinsey earns an average salary of $555k per year, which means he bagged an average amount of $8,880k during his 16-year tenure but his salary at Vanguard isn’t known yet.

BlackRock issued a statement congratulating Ramji. A spokesman stated that the company was “proud to have a track record of our firm’s alumni going on to lead multiple investment management companies and other financial Institutions.”

Ramji spent 16 years with the consulting firm McKinsey, where he led asset and wealth management functions. According to the profile, he worked as a lawyer at Clifford Chance between 1994 and 1998.

According to the Journal, Ramji will be the first Vanguard CEO who does not work directly with John Bogle, the company’s founder in 1974. Bogle passed away in 2019.
