Ankita, who primarily competes in outdoor races over 1500 and 5000 metres, is winning her first major medal. In 2019 and 2020, she won the gold medals in both categories at the Khelo India competition.

Ankita Dhyani is an Indian athlete who was born in Uttarakhand on February 5, 2002. Running both long and middle distances is her speciality. Her hometown is Maroda village in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district. She is coached by Scott Simmons.
A look at Ankita Dhyani’s career
At the high altitude of 1400 metres, in her village, she used to run with the large boys preparing for Army selections.
Dhyani, competing at the junior level, qualified for the 2021 World U-20 Athletics Championships by earning gold in the 1500 and 5000 metres at the Federation Cup U-20 Championships in Sangrur in January of that year. Later, she placed eighth at the Worlds U-20 in Nairobi.
At the Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, Youth Nationals, she took home the gold in the 200m in 2018. Next year, she took first place in the 1500m at Ranchi’s Junior Nationals. The same year, in 2019, she took home gold in the 1500 and 5000 metres in the Pune Khelo India Youth Games.
In Guwahati, 2020, she took home gold in the 1500 and 5000 metres at the Khelo India Youth Games. The following year, in the 1500 and 5000 metres in the Pune Khelo India Youth Games, she won gold.
At the Junior National Championships 2021 in Guwahati, she took home gold in the 1500 and 5000 metres. She broke Sunita Rani’s 23-year-old record of 16:21.59 in the 5000 metres by clocking a Junior National record of 16:21.19.
At the Federation Cup Junior u-20 Athletics Championships 2021, in Sangrur, Punjab, in January, she took home gold in the 1500 and 5000 metres. She earned a spot in the 1500m race at the Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand in May last year.
Renowned long-distance coach Scott Simmons, who has also taught well-known Indian athletes Avinash Sable, Parul Chaudhary, and Jinson Johnson, among others, hosted Ankita Dhyani for a training camp in the United States in 2023.
