Jaspreet Singh, a Sikh IPS police officer, who was stationed at Dhamakhali to stop senior West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari from visiting Sandeshkhali, became upset as BJP workers called him derogatory names like “Khalistani.”

Acompanying Adhikari, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul refuted the officer’s performance of duty and refuted the ‘Khalistani’ accusation. Singh, wearing a turban, confronted the BJP supporters, expressing his dismay at being labeled a Khalistani based on his appearance.

In the viral video of the incident, Jaspreet Singh was heard saying,

Just because I am wearing a turban, you people are calling me a Khalistani? Is this what you have learnt? If a police officer wears a turban and performs his duty honestly, he becomes a Khalistani for you? Shame on you.

He added,

I am just doing my job. Did I say anything about your religion, why are you speaking about my religion?

Asserting that the BJP’s polarizing tactics had gone beyond constitutional bounds, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also denounced the incident and brought attention to it by posting video footage on social media.

Jaspreet Singh is an Indian police service (IPS) officer. He has been in the news because he became furious after BJP workers reportedly called him “Khalistani.”

The police officer in the video is Jaspreet Singh, an IPS officer of 2016 batch and is currently posted as Special Superintendent (Intelligence Bureau) in the West Bengal Police.

He has been a part of the West Bengal cadre since 2016. With his distinguished service record, he held the position of Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Special Task Force (STF) in Siliguri. Currently, he is holding the position of Deputy Commissioner (DC) for Bidhannagar Zone in the West Bengal Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

In a significant move, he was later transferred and entrusted with the responsibilities of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) for Bidhannagar Zone within the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate in West Bengal.
