The group’s objection to being videotaped dampened the mood, even if at first they were enjoying the music. As tensions escalated, the British Transport Police were called, and accusations were made, including Kavanagh allegedly touching one of the women. However, he refuted the accusation, stating that he was attempting to touch the flags.
The situation intensified further as the tourists accused Kavanagh of racism, alleging mislabeling as Japanese and making derogatory remarks. Following the police involvement, Kavanagh was apparently advised not to upload the footage on YouTube, but he disregarded this advice.
Social media users’ responses to the viral video have been mixed; some have justified Kavanagh’s conduct, while others have sided with the visitors and suggested that there was a misunderstanding.
