KS Rajanna receives the Padma Shri award
On Thursday, May 9, 2024, President Draupadi Murmu honoured KS Rajanna with the prestigious Padma Shri award. The event took place at a ceremony which took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Notably, the entire event took place under the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, as well as several other prominent persons.
Upon hearing his name for the award, Rajanna stood up from his chair and walked towards Prime Minister Modi to shake hands with him. In response, Modi expressed his happiness and held Rajanna’s hands for a few moments. Following which Rajanna proceeded towards President Murmu and bowed respectfully before receiving the prestigious award from her. While turning to leave, one of the soldier’s present moved forward to help him, but Rajanna refused help in a show of independence

KS Rajanna is a physically challenged Indian social activist who hails from Bengaluru, Karnataka. Rajanna is currently 64 years old and he is renowned for his work in supporting the disabled. Despite losing the use of his hands and legs due to polio at the young age of 11, Rajanna learned how to walk on his knees.
He dedicated his entire life to helping and uplifting the disabled. Back in 2013, the Karnataka government made him the State Disability Commissioner. Despite being removed from the post before he completed his three-year term, the government later re-appointed him.
