Who is Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi?
Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi is a prominent Indian lawyer and judge. She has been in the news because she was implicated in a renewed dispute about case reassignments at the Supreme Court.
She was born on 10 June 1960 in Patan, a district of North Gujarat. She attended several schools since her father was a transferable judge and worked in the judicial service. Later on, she completed her B.Com. and LL.B. at M.S. University, Vadodara.
She is currently 63 years old.
On July 10, 1995, Justice Trivedi was appointed directly as a Judge at the City Civil and Sessions Court in Ahmedabad and her father was also serving as a Judge at the same court at the time of her appointment. This earned them a place in Limca Book of Indian Records in their 1996 edition as ‘Father-daughter judges in the same court’.
Her career
For almost 10 years, Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi’s career as a lawyer at the Gujarat High Court was focused on civil and constitutional problems. Later, on July 10, 1995, she received a direct appointment to the Ahmedabad City Civil and Sessions Court as a judge.
While employed by the Judicial Services, Justice Bela M. Trivedi held several positions, such as Registrar of Vigilance at the Gujarat High Court, Judge of the CBI Court, Special Judge of Bomb Blast Cases, and so on.
From 2004 until 2006, Justice Bela Madhurya Trivedi served as the State Government of Gujarat’s Deputy Law Secretary. Judge Trivedi was promoted to the position of Gujarat High Court Judge on February 17, 2011. In 2013, she secured confirmation as a permanent judge at the Rajasthan High Court, later being repatriated to the Gujarat High Court in February 2016.
She is due to retire on 09th June, 2025.
