In September of 2023 Greg had surgery to remove a brain tumor and his life was forever changed. He lost control of his body, couldn’t speak and was a physical shell of himself.

Back in September 2023, Greg Brooks Jr. had to undergo an emergency surgery because he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. At the time, Greg Brooks Jr. was only 23 years old.

After the surgery, Brooks Jr. was left permanently disabled because the surgeon who performed the surgery was “not qualified to do this particular surgery.” In 2024, Greg and his family filed a lawsuit against the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

Greg Brooks Jr. talked about his experiences leading up to his transformative operation.

In August 2023, he reported experiencing headaches, nausea, and dizziness, among other symptoms. Brooks Jr. had “severe and permanent injuries” when he emerged from the procedure. The former football star and his family made the decision to sue the Baton Rouge medical facility.

Additional information on Brooks Jr.’s experience was disclosed in the lawsuit. It claims that during practice, the former LSU safety even fainted.

The LSU sports trainer determined that he had vertigo and gave him the all-clear to resume practice. For 39 days, Brooks Jr. had these symptoms, and he even reported them.

What transpired with Greg Brooks Jr. during the surgery was also disclosed in the lawsuit. It claimed that by the time the surgery was over, he had experienced “multiple strokes” and was disabled.

He was born on August 30, 2001 with his height at 5 feet 11 inches and is the son of Pim Barnes and Gregory Brooks Sr. Has four siblings named, Ava, London, Jada and Paris.

He was a four-year varsity letterwinner at West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Louisiana and he racked up 55 tackles and five interceptions as a junior in 2017 for the Buccaneers. His father Greg Brooks Sr. played collegiate football as a defensive back for one year at Michigan and three seasons at Southern Miss before being drafted in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Greg Brooks Jr. started his football career as a varsity player at Harvey, Louisiana’s West Jefferson High School. In 2019, he enrolled as a freshman at the University of Arkansas. He participated in 35 games over three seasons with the University of Arkansas. He participated in 12 games in 2019 (winning two), 10 games in 2020 (winning three), and 13 games in 2021 (winning nine).

From 2022 to 2023, he played for Louisiana State University. He participated in all 14 games (10 victories) in season 2022 and only appeared in two games in season 2023, but LSU played 13 games and won 10. He missed some games in season 2023 because of a health condition. His condition was medulloblastoma.
