Yui Susaki bio and age

Yui Susaki is a Japanese freestyle wrestling sensation who was born on June 30, 1999, in Matsudo, Chiba, Japan. She is currently 25-years-old, and is the reigning champion of the womenโ€™s freestyle wrestling 50 kg event. Susaki had a dominating gold medal win at the 2020 Summer Olympics, after winning it without conceding a single point.

She is also a four-time world champion, and has lost just four times since 2010. Three of those came against Yuki Irie in 2015, 2017 and 2019, and the most recent one against Vinesh Phogat at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Japan’s Yui Susaki is currently the World No. 1 wrestler in the 50 kg women’s wrestling category and held an 82-0 international fight record before losing to Phogat.

Career and achievements

Yui started out wrestling at a very young age after getting inspired from watching wrestling videos with her father, who was also an experienced wrestler. Susaki eventually started entering tournaments by the second grade and won the World Cadet Wrestling Championships (U17) thrice in a row.

During her second year of junior high school, Yui Susaki attended the JOC (Japan Olympic Committee) Elite Academy. Following her rigorous training at the academy, she enrolled at Waseda University, where she actively trained alongside male athletes.

Susaki has since dominated in the sport. She has not lost a single professional bout since 2010, except for three losses to Yuki Irie in 2015, 2017 and 2019 and once to Vinesh Phogat in Paris 2024. The Japanese wrestler gained major prominence after winning a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics without conceding a single point. She is also a four-time World Champion and has consistently maintained an undefeated streak across major international competitions.
