Harry Sargeant III was born on December 30, 1957, in Florida, USA. He graduated from Florida State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in business. Sargeant was commissioned as a second lieutenant and earned his pilot wings at naval flight school in 1981. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves as a pilot for 11 years and rose to the rank of major.
After he served in the Marine Corps, he briefly worked for Delta Airlines. His father had founded a small shipping company in the early 1980s. Soon after that, he took over his father’s company. Sargeant Marine, Inc., became a global company under Sargeant’s leadership.
The 65-year-old oil tycoon’s current net worth is over $3 billion, according to his Wikipedia page.
Building His Legacy
In 2005, Sargeant founded the Boca Raton-based International Oil Trading Company (IOTC). His firm has received several government contracts and supplies aviation fuel to the U.S. military in Iraq through Jordan.
In 2008, Sargeant was accused of “war profiteering” and overcharging for fuel by 36 cents per gallon by then-U.S. Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA). Sargeant felt these accusations were politically motivated. According to him, these accusations were “numerous accolades from [the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)] for its exemplary performance during the war.”

He was married to Deborah Sargeant and has two kids together, Harry and Garrett Sargeant. His brother, Daniel Sargeant, is the father of famous racing drivers Dalton and Logan Sargeant. He is a fraternity brother of former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, St. Petersburg developer Brent Sembler, and other notable Pi Kappa Alpha brothers.
