At the age of 10, Couto joined Coritiba’s youth setup in 2012. Appearing as a first-half substitute for an injured Patrick Vieira in a 2-0 Campeonato Paranaense home victory over Cianorte, Couto made his senior debut on February 21, 2020, after being promoted to the starting lineup for the 2020 campaign.
On March 1, 2020, Couto signed a five-year deal with Premier League team Manchester City, which would take effect on July 1, after being strongly linked to FC Barcelona. On September 25, he went on a season-long loan to Girona in the Segunda Division of Spain.
