An unfortunate incidnent happened as Gerhard Freundorfer was engaged in a deadly incident with a Proton Huber lorry in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya paddock on Tuesday, during the season’s preliminaries.
That morning, Freundorfer was involved in a deadly collision with the team truck, according to a statement made public by the European Le Mans Series on Tuesday. The Le Mans Cup is a component of the support package for the series.

Freundorfer was promptly attended to by the circuit medical team, but he passed away from his wounds and was pronounced deceased.

Who was Gerhard Freundorfer?
Gerhard Freundorfer was Proton Huber team manager who died following an unfortunate accident due to collision with the team truck.
The European Le Mans Series, which is also hosting its first race of 2024 in the Spanish location this weekend, as well as the Le Mans Cup, Barcelona, have not released any additional details, so far. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya’s managing director, Josep Lluis Santamaria stated, as per motorsport:
On behalf of the Circuit we deeply regret this accident and would like to extend our deepest condolences to Gerhard’s family, friends and the entire paddock of the European Le Mans Series.”
The President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, Pierre Fillon also stated that the sudden death of Gerhard has “saddened” everyone involving all the racing fraternity.
CEO of Le Mans Endurance Management, Frederic Lequien also sent his “condolences” for his family and wife. He further said that they will all deeply miss Gerhard, who was a part of the endurance family. They at ACO would like to offer their sympathies to Gerhard’s friends and family.
Gerhard Freundorfer is survived by his wife Karola.
Nine cars will compete in the 110-minute race this weekend in the LMGT3. The German team, which is a combination of Proton Competition and Porsche single make veterans Huber Racing, has entered a single Porsche 911 GT3 R for drivers Joerg Dreisow and Manuel Lauck.
Proton, meanwhile, has three entries in the 4 Hours of Barcelona this weekend.
