Frank Tyson, 53, died at a hospital after he was pinned down by police officers at a bar and remained motionless for minutes. Tyson was released from prison on April 6 after serving 24 years on a kidnapping and theft case but he was almost immediately arrested again.

The footage of Frank Eugene Tyson brings to mind the similar manner in which George Floyd, another African American, was assassinated in 2020. The Canton Police Department has released a 36-minute body camera video in which police can be seen apprehending Frank Eugene Tyson aged 53.

Tyson reportedly raced to a local pub after it was suspected that he had fled the scene of a single-car accident. Tyson yelled, “Cal the sheriff, they’re trying to kill me,” as the police officers are seen approaching him at the pub in the video. The cops then handcuffed Tyson and pin him to the ground with one of them kneeling on his neck for approximately thirty seconds.

Tyson was seen lying still, face down, on the ground for roughly six minutes after the cops stand up. He appeared unresponsive when they check on him. The officers’ questions, “Is he breathing?” and “Does he have a pulse?” can be heard in the video.

They can then be seen taking Tyson’s handcuffs off and doing CPR on him. Subsequently, Tyson is seen being taken into an ambulance by paramedics on a stretcher.

According to media reports, Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch, the two police officers are suspected of killing Tyson. Both of them are placed on administrative leave while the local crime investigation bureau is looking into the event.

Following Floyd’s death in 2020 as a result of White police officer Derek Chauvin’s kneeling on his neck, Minneapolis police came under fire. The event sparked protests against racial prejudice and police brutality both domestically and internationally. Manslaughter and other offences were later found to have been committed by Chauvin and three other police officers.
