According to police, specialized cops looking for missing former England rugby player Tom Voyce have discovered a body at the location where he was washed away while attempting to drive across a river that was flooded.

The failure of Tom Voyce to come home after spending Saturday with friends sparked worries on Sunday. Outside of Alnwick, Northumberland, his Toyota Hilux was found downstream from Abberwick Ford on the River Aln. Police believe he was washed away during his attempt to flee the car. When Storm Darragh battered the UK over the weekend, the river level was especially high.
The North of Tyne and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Teams, along with Northumbria Police, drones, the police aircraft, and coast guard officials, began a massive search and rescue operation. The beloved former rugby player’s friends and family also joined the search.
43-year-old Tom Voyce was born in Truro, Cornwall, on January 5, 1981. He was 6ft 1in tall. While playing for Gloucester Rugby in the 1920s, Voyce’s great-uncle, Anthony Thomas Voyce, earned 27 caps for England and was a part of the first side to win the Grand Slam twice. In 1960–61, he was elected President of the RFU.

The former England rugby star was married to Anna Voyce (née Wood) and the couple tied the knot back in September 2015. Tom and Anna welcomed the birth of their first and only child, a son named Oscar back in 2018. Tom also leaves behind his mother Christine and sister Emily.
Shortly after they gave up the bright lights of London for country life in Northumberland and Tom then went on to set up his own business, Trevow, in vegetation management.
Voyce attended King’s College in Taunton after receiving his education at Penair School in Truro.
He represented the Wooden Spoon Society as an Ambassador off the rugby field.
Tom Voyce was reported missing in Northumberland in December 2024 during flooding brought on by Storm Darragh. Voyce’s whereabouts remain unknown, although his automobile was later located after he failed to return home from a social gathering.
Tom Voyce career
Prior to playing for the Truro RFC U15s and U16s, he demonstrated promise playing mini rugby with Penryn RFC in his home county of Cornwall. He relocated to London in 2003 to play for Wasps for the 2003–04 campaign, and he immediately made a name for himself in the starting lineup. That season, he participated in 34 of his team’s 35 games and scored 15 tries.
Voyce was chosen for each Six Nations Championship game in 2006. In 2007, Voyce and Wasps won their second Heineken Cup. He was unable to participate in Wasps’ victory in the 2007–08 Premiership final, though, due to an injury. It was announced on May 16, 2013, that Voyce would immediately resign from all rugby-related activities. Voyce worked at Investec Bank Plc after retiring.
