Who is Dusty May?

Dusty A. May is an American collegiate basketball coach who was born on December 30, 1976 in Peoria, Illinois, U.S. He is the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team’s head coach. In 1995, he received his graduation from Eastern Greene High School in Indiana.

A look at Dusty May’s career

From 1996 to 2000, May worked under Bob Knight as an undergraduate student manager at Indiana. He worked in video and administrative roles for USC and Indiana after graduating, and then he was hired as an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan for the 2005–2006 season.

May subsequently held positions with former Indiana head coach Mike Davis at UAB and Murray State. He started working as an assistant at Louisiana Tech, serving as Mike White’s and Kerry Rupp’s supervisor.

On March 22, 2018, he succeeded White as head coach of Florida Atlantic, succeeding Michael Curry, after serving as assistant coach there from 2015 to 2018. He amassed a 126-69 record while attending Florida Atlantic, never concluding with a losing campaign.

Dusty May’s contract details and salary

The Detroit Free Press reports that May and Michigan have reached an agreement on a five-year deal.

The same outlet reports that, following Florida Atlantic’s Final Four performance the previous season, May did sign a 10-year contract extension worth $1.25 million with yearly increases of 5% until 2033. Over ten years, the contract was worth $15.7 million in total.

Along with his $1.25 million base pay, he received an additional $25,000 for qualifying for the NCAA tournament. According to his contract with Florida Atlantic, his payout this season stands at $1 million. While he will earn more than his current deal at Michigan, his official salary hasn’t been revealed yet.

He could however end up making $5-6 million annually at Michigan with Howard being paid $3.4 million before he was fired.
