Christian Bruckner emerged as a potential suspect in 2020 in Madeleine McCann’s case. He is a German prisoner who was first involved in an unsolved mystery in 2020. The previous year, his name was officially announced as the prime suspect in McCann’s abduction.
According to reports, his yellow and white VW T3 Westfalia campervan was spotted near the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal. It was the same hotel where the young girl McCann went missing on May 3, 2007.

Who Is Christian Brueckner?
Christian Brueckner was born in 1976 in Germany and later moved to Portugal from 1995 to 2007. He worked in the food industry during his time there.
Brueckner is 6 feet tall, white, slim, and has blond hair. He is a prolific burglar who was convicted of sexual crimes against young girls.
The Key Suspect In McCann’s Case
In April 2022, Brueckner was declared the prime suspect in McCann’s case by the Portuguese police department. In addition to his previous conviction for the rape and murder of a 72-year-old woman, he is now accused of multiple sex crimes between 2000 and 2007.
However, German police claim the girl to be dead as per their “concrete evidence.”
According to a Braunschweig prosecutor’s spokesperson, “the accused is the same person who was charged for Madeleine Beth McCann’s disappearance when she was three years old.” He was charged with three counts of aggravated rape and two counts of sexually abusing young children. Nevertheless, the alleged offences have nothing to do with the McCann case.
Proofs Claiming Brueckner To Be The Man Behind Abduction And Murder
German police claim to have discovered fresh evidence connected to Madeleine inside a Brueckner vehicle in May. At the time Madeleine vanished, Brueckner was reported to have been driving a yellow and white VW T3 Westfalia campervan around Praia da Luz.
Data from telecoms shows Brueckner made a call on May 3, 2007, near the Praia da Luz holiday apartment where she went missing. However, he allegedly claims to have been miles away with a young German woman.
Brueckner, who has consistently denied any role in Madeleine’s disappearance, claims to have driven the woman to the Faro airport, where she would catch a flight back to her home country the following day while she was on vacation with her parents. According to Sky News, they were stopped and a picture was taken at a police roadblock.
On April 21, 2017, Portuguese police recognised Brueckner as an arguido, a formal suspect, marking the first occasion since 2007.
Christian Brueckner’s Time In Prison
Brueckner was sent to jail in the case of the rape and murder of a 72-year-old lady in the same resort, Praia da Luz, where Madeleine vanished.
According to the German police, who were investigating the incident as a homicide, Brueckner initially intended to rob the vacation rental but “moved on to a sexual reason.” He is thought to have received 17 convictions in total, including one for burglary since he burglarizes vacation rentals and hotels.
