Zion Suzuki is a 23-year-old professional football player, who play as the starting goalkeeper for the Japan National Team, and Italian Serie A club, Parma Calcio 1913.

Zion Suzuki aka Suzuki Zaion was born on August 21, 2002, in Newark, New Jersey, United States. The professional football player has Ghanaian lineage from his father, and Japanese lineage from his mother’s side. 

Reportedly, Suzuki was named after the biblical location of Mount Zion, near Jerusalem. When he was young, his family moved to Japan and from then on they settled in Urawa, Saitama.

He has currently taken over social media platforms as he is the only player on team Japan’s World Cup roster born outside of Japanese territory.

Career 

Suzuki began playing football when he was still a child, following his older brother into the sport. From elementary school, he played as a goalkeeper. Later, he joined the academy of his local club, Urawa Red Diamonds as an elementary school student.

He signed a professional contract at the age of 16, making him the youngest professional signing in the Club’s history. He made his debut for the club on March 2nd, 2021, in the J. League Cup match against Shonan Bellmare.

In his first season of J. League Cup with the club, Suzuki won the New Hero Award in 2021. The 1.90m that is 6 feet 3 inches tall, currently plays for Parma, a team he joined on July 15th, 2024 in a 5-year contract.

After joining the club, he made the headlines for becoming the second Japanese national team player to represent Parma club following Hidetoshi Nakata.
