At the women’s World Rapid Championships, Humpy has now finished with a set of medals with the silver. She had won the bronze medal in Moscow, Russia in 2012 and the world championship in Batumi, Georgia in 2019.
The 36-year-old Indian Grandmaster was forced to forfeit the championship after losing in a tie-break against Russian Anastasia Bodnaruk. Despite being extremely late, Humpy, ranked eight, was fortunate to prevail in the opening tie-break match against Black.
In order to get the draw required to win the title, Bodnaruk was fortunate to checkmate a dominating Humpy, who disregarded a one-move defensive.

Koneru Humpy, an Indian chess player born on March 31, 1987, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. The 36-year-old gained fame after winning the 2019 FIDE Women’s Rapid Chess Championship.
A look at Koneru Humpy’s career
At the age of 15 years, 1 month, and 27 days in 2002, she surpassed Judit Polgár’s previous record by three months to become the youngest woman to hold the title of Grandmaster (GM) (this record was subsequently beaten by Hou Yifan in 2008).
After Polgár, Humpy was the second female player to surpass the 2600 Elo rating threshold in October 2007, with a rating of 2606. In the under-10, under-12, and under-14 girls divisions at the World Youth Chess Championship, Humpy took home three gold medals.
Humpy took home the World Junior Girls Championship in 2001. In 2002, she became the eighth female Grandmaster in history.
She has won a lot of trophies and championships, including British Women’s Championship in 2000 and in 2002, Asian Women’s Individual Championship and the Indian Women’s Championship in 2003, North Urals Cup in 2005.
