Nina Singh will assume the role that Sheel Vardhan Singh had till his retirement in August of this year. Until being appointed to the top position on Thursday, Nina Singh was the Special Director General of the CISF. Since 2021, she has been connected to the CISF. The Force is in charge of maintaining security at all national airports as well as key nuclear and aerospace facilities and the Delhi Metro.
59-year-old IPS Nina Singh was born in 1964 on July 11. She was born in Patna, Bihar in a family of civil servants. IPS Nina’s mother Shashi Singh served as an IAS officer. She is married to IAS Rohit Kumar Singh.
Nina Singh attended St. Josephs Convent School, Patna. Hailing from Bihar, she pursued her education at the esteemed Patna Women’s College and the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Her academic journey also took her to Harvard University where she earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration. This educational foundation, coupled with her years of service, positioned her as a distinguished leader in the security landscape.
Before taking the reins as the Director-General of CISF, IPS Nina Singh etched her name in history by becoming the first woman to hold the top police post in Rajasthan. Singh’s tenure as CISF’s chief extends until her retirement on July 31 next year, marking a significant chapter in her illustrious career.
Since her early IPS days, Singh has been an advocate for women’s rights and safety. As a member secretary of the State Women’s Commission in 2000, she created an outreach strategy where the Commission would host hearings for underprivileged women in multiple areas.
Nina Singh was inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS) as a Manipur-cadre officer, however, she later moved to the Rajasthan cadre. She is an IPS officer from the 1989 batch.
