The day of the Ram Temple’s opening in Ayodhya, is drawing near quickly. Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi who are the two prominent members of the Bharatiya Janata Party have been urged by Champat Rai to skip the opening ceremony.
Champat Rai reportedly announced in a press conference that Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi would not be able to attend the inauguration ceremony because of age and health-related issues.
77-year-old Champat Rai was born in 1946 in Mohalla Saraimer, Nagina, Bijnor. He hails from the family of Rameshwar Prasad Bansal and is a Hindu by religion. He pursued his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.

Champat Rai’s journey into public service began in his childhood when he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). As a youth, he served as a pracharak for the RSS. Alongside his RSS involvement, Champat Rai pursued a career in education and became a Professor of Chemistry at Dhampur’s Ashram Degree College.
During the Emergency in 1977, amidst the Ramjanmabhoomi movement, Champat Rai faced adversity. Arrested by the police from the college, he spent about eighteen months in various jails across the state.
Remarkably, after his release, Rai did not return home but instead joined the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in 1980. From then on, he tirelessly worked with the people of VHP towards the common goal of constructing a Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Champat Rai’s involvement in the Ram temple case reached a pinnacle when he became the main advocate and representative in the ongoing Supreme Court hearings. His role extended to gathering crucial evidence in favor of Ram Janmabhoomi, showcasing his legal acumen and dedication to the cause.
Recognizing his contributions, the Ram Mandir Trust appointed him as the General Secretary, underscoring the trust’s confidence in Rai’s capabilities.
Beyond his legal and organizational roles, Champat Rai is active on social media, particularly Twitter. With a verified account and over 47,000 followers since 2020. @ChampatRaiVHP, serves as a platform for communication and connection with supporters.
However, Rai’s recent remarks have sparked controversy, particularly concerning Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s visit to Ayodhya. In a leaked video from 2020, Champat Rai made statements that raised objections from Naga sadhus of Hanuman Garhi temple and Ayodhya saints. The fallout highlights the diverse opinions within the Ayodhya community and the challenges associated with managing differing perspectives.
