In 2004, he assumed the role of a member in the Mandal Parishad Territorial Council in the former Nizamabad district. Progressing further, he secured a position as a Zilla Parishad Territorial Council member and later served as the chairperson of the zilla parishad.

Following the demise of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), the then chief minister of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, KVR shifted his allegiance to the BRS (then TRS) in the 2014 assembly elections.
