Currently holding the position of First Lieutenant aboard the warship INS Chennai, Commander Prerna Deosthalee, a native of Mumbai, joined the Indian Navy in 2009. In a noteworthy development, Commander Prerna has assumed command of INS Trinkat, stationed in Goa. The Navy announced that Rear Admiral Praveen Nair, Western Fleet Commander, personally handed Prerna’s appointment letter appointing her as the Commanding Officer of Waterjet FAC INS Trinkat.
Lieutenant Commander Deosthalee, hailing from Mumbai, is the first lady observer on the Tupolev Tu-142, a maritime reconnaissance aircraft. She also served on the P8I, another reconnaissance aircraft, as reported by the Free Press Journal. Prerna completed her schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary and pursued a degree in psychology from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai.
Joining the Indian Navy in 2009, she comes from a military background, with her brother serving as an officer in the Navy. As per reports, Prerna is the wife of a navy officer, and the couple has a three-year-old daughter.
