Since the American squad joined Formula One in 2016, Steiner has served as team leader. The Italian, who played a prominent part in the Drive To Survive series on Netflix, became well-known in the sport and was the third-longest serving team principal in Formula One history, behind Christian Horner of Red Bull and Toto Wolff of Mercedes.

Ayao Komatsu, the team principal and an engineer in Formula One, was born in Japan on January 28, 1976, in Tokyo Japan.

A look at Ayao Komatsu’s career so far
After working as the trackside engineering director for the Haas F1 Team, the 47-year-old is currently the team principal.
As a tyre engineer for British American Racing, Komatsu started his motorsport career in 2003 and worked for the Brackley team for two seasons. He joined Renault in 2006 as a performance engineer, initially working on the test team before getting promoted to the racing team, where he collaborated with drivers including Vitaly Petrov, Romain Grosjean, and Nelson Piquet Jr.
Komatsu helped Grosjean and the Enstone team secure a podium finish at the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix after being elevated to lead race engineer at Lotus following a dismal 2014. He accompanied Grosjean to the newly formed Haas F1 Team, where he was appointed trackside engineering director in 2016.
Following Guenther Steiner’s resignation, Komatsu assumed the role of team principal for Haas on January 10, 2024. While his salary isn’t known in the role, Guenther was paid $1 million per year.
