Originally selected as the tenth overall pick by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Mayo was a member of the team until his retirement following the 2015 campaign.
Jerod Mayo played linebacker and running back in football at Hampton’s Kecoughtan High School, where he received three letters. He was ranked eleventh nationally among outside linebackers by Rivals.com, which graded him as a four-star prospect. Tennessee was his choice over Purdue, Virginia, North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech.
In the 2008 NFL Draft, the Patriots selected Mayo, tenth overall, while he was a University of Tennessee football player. He was the Patriots’ Defensive Rookie of the Year and played there until he retired at the end of the 2015 campaign. 2019 saw him return to them as a coach.
