On Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Atishi Marlena, also known as Atishi Singh, was sworn in as a minister in Delhi by Lt Governor V K Saxena in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
She has been assigned the crucial portfolios of education, PWD, power, and tourism departments. Her appointment comes after the resignation of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who previously held the education portfolio and is presently in jail on corruption charges.

Who is Atishi Marlena?
Atishi Marlena is a well-known Indian politician. She has been in the news because she became the education minister of Delhi following Manish Sisodia’s resignation.
Her real name is Atishi Singh but she dropped it owing to an alleged communist ideology which she believes in. She was born on June 8, 1981, in Delhi, India. Her father’s name is Vijay Singh, and her mother’s name is Tripta Wahi; both were professors at Delhi University. She is a Hindu by religion.
Atishi Marlena did her schooling at Springdales School, Pusa Road, New Delhi. Later, she attended St. Stephen’s College, where she earned a degree in history.
Soon after, she moved to Oxford University, where she earned a Chevening scholarship to complete her master’s in history there in 2003. As a Rhodes scholar, she enrolled in Magdalen College in Oxford in 2005.
She is married, and her husband’s name is Pravin Singh.
She is currently 41 years old.
Her career
Atishi Marlena had a brief stint as a teacher at Andhra Pradesh’s Rishi Valley School. She has also collaborated with the Sambhavana Institute of Public Policy, a nonprofit organization.
Since 2013, when she started participating in the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) policy-making process, Atishi Marlena has been actively connected with the organization. Atishi was chosen to lead the AAP’s Goa chapter after the 2020 elections.
Atishi Marlena served as East Delhi’s Lok Sabha representative at the 2019 general elections and ran for office as an AAP party candidate in the same district. Later, she ran for the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2020 from the South Delhi district of Kalkaji, which she won by beating Bhartiya Janata Party opponent Dharambir Singh.
Following the resignation of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendar Jain, she was inducted into the Delhi Government as a cabinet minister along with Saurabh Bharadwaj. She will be handling the education, PWD, power, and tourism departments in the government.
